Ideal Weight

Wondering how to discover your ideal weight so that you'll be able to gear your diet towards achieving that goal? An important part of safe, healthy slimming that will reap long term results is to set realistic targets that work with your body and take into account your natural shape.

The often over-looked truth about slimming is that there isn't an ideal weight that works for everybody across the board. How can there be when every person's genetic make up is different? Instead, there is an ideal weight that's specific to every individual. Once you have discovered your ideal weight, you can gear your slimming process to achieving that target.

And what's more, once you've identified a healthy shape for your body type, you won't be in danger of over-dieting in an attempt to reach a goal that's unrealistic - or even unsafe. So how can you figure out what your ideal weight should be?

The first step in any healthy dieting program is a visit to your doctor. Your doctor will be able to properly assess the need for the diet, and will usually be able to provide you with information about how to develop a healthy, balanced nutritionally-sound eating plan. Your doctor will also have tools that will help you to get a better idea of what an appropriate shape for you would be. One of these tools is a chart that lists how many kgs you should be according to your height and age.

There is a separate chart for both men and women to account for anatomical differences between the sexes. These charts will definitely give you a ball-park idea of the kind of body shape you should be aiming for, but they should be viewed as a guide only. For a more accurate assessment, ask your doctor to help you determine your BMI, or Body Mass Index. This is a much more reliable tool, because it actually measures the percentage of your body made up of lean tissue vs. fat. It's therefore focused on attaining health, without any preconceived ideas of shape or externally motivated judgements.

If you're interested in learning more about how to determine personal slimming goals, why not visit your doctor today?
