Jump Rope

One of the least expensive pieces of exercise equipment is a jump rope.

It is perfect for beginners and seasoned exercisers alike because you can adjust the speed and frequency with which you used the jump rope in order to continue to build up the cardiovascular benefits of this type of exercise.

The only thing you need other than the jump rope itself is a good pair of sneakers. They should have plenty of cushion because the constant jumping motion is high impact and if you don't wear proper support shoes, you could very easily hurt your feet. Some people who regularly exercise with a jump rope also wear high top sneakers to support their ankles. If you have weak ankles and are prone to sprains or strains you should consider doing this, as every bit of support will help.

The cardio benefits are spectacular for this easy and adaptable exercise. Because of the constant motion it is as beneficial as being on a treadmill or taking a jog. When starting off with this type of training, you should go slowly and try not to hop too high or land too hard. You should start by hopping with both feet, although you can alternate feet in order to have some variety in your regimen.

Several key muscle groups are worked out and will become stronger over time if you follow a regimen including these exercises. Your calves and thighs benefit as well as the abdomen, chest, shoulders, back and arms, due to the circular shoulder and arm motion.

It can be done anywhere, anytime which only increases the viability of it as a part of a well-rounded exercise program.
