NASM

If you are looking to become a personal trainer, consider a NASM certification.

NASM stands for National Academy of Sports Medicine and offers a basic level of certification for entry-level candidates who wish to design and implement fitness programs for others.

In order to take the NASM certification you must be at least 18 years old and also hold a current Emergency Cardiac Care (CPR) certification.

While studying for the exam you will learn how to design specific programs according to your clients individual goals, how to perform a fitness assessment on everyone from the beginner to the high level athlete and finally how to adapt and modify different exercises so they meet the needs of any type of individual with regards to their current strength and physical limitations.

Every two years after earning your initial certification you will also have to go through a process of recertification.

This is to ensure that all candidates maintain the knowledge that is necessary to perform their role as a personal trainer and also to build upon their current knowledge with the continuing credit courses they will take. The additional fee for recertification is $99 so it is quite cost effective.

In addition to your basic certification you can also specialize while you pursue your continuing education classes needed for recertification. The options they have available are a Performance Enhancement Specialist and a Corrective Exercise Specialist. Either of these certifications will really help launch your career as a personal trainer to the next level.

So if you are considering this career field give this organization some thought. It is a very sought after certification and is well recognized in the industry.
