Pilates Workout

If you are looking for a challenging form of exercise, a Pilates workout is perfect. A Pilates workout is one that focuses on strengthening and lengthening the muscles at the same time.

Whereas your typical strength training routine only focuses on building muscle mass, a Pilates workout is going to look at making this muscle mass look and function optimally.

This form of exercise really concentrates on using the mind to focus and control the actions of the muscles. Because of this you get a deeper understanding of how your muscles work and where they are in space. You will notice improved balance abilities along with a more graceful presence.

Breathing is also a big factor in this exercise and you learn how to regulate and control it according to your movements. This will also indirectly help to strengthen your whole core area thus reducing the chances of back injuries.

Many physiotherapists are using this type of exercise to help rehabilitate their injured patients since it is strengthening while still being easy on the joints. Most often you are using your own body weight as well so you can work at your own pace, making it easier or more difficult depending upon the positions you choose.

This is a very good exercise to do to complete your cardiovascular training, however you do need to realize that it should never replace it. While it will significantly strengthen your muscles, it will not challenge your heart enough to provide the same benefits as say a run or bike ride would.

So if you are going to try a new activity this week, give this a try. You will be amazed at how many muscles it will work and the kind of benefits you will receive from it.
