The best way to begin any fitness program is to gradually incorporate more activity into your life. You can walk to work instead of drive, or play with you kids outside when they come home from school. If you want a more vigorous fitness program, you can check out your local gym or consult with a personal trainer to give you exercises that are tailored to your specific goals. It is a good idea to consult with your doctor before you start exercising.

All exercise should begin with a warm up. Warm up with at least 5 minutes of aerobic activity, such as skipping or stair climbing, before you begin. Then, your program should include a balance of cardiovascular activity and muscle conditioning.

Try and do some cardiovascular activity (running, walking, and swimming) 4-5 times per week for 15-45 minutes each session. Strength train (with resistance bands, machines or free weights) for 2-3 times per week for 20-30 minutes each session. These numbers and times will vary depending on your exercise level.

The benefits of incorporating exercise into your daily life are endless. These include more energy, improved stamina, weight loss and increased mobility. You will see result immediately when you begin your program and it will only get better as you progress. Remember: it is never too late to start, so take that first step today!
