Pilates & Pregnancy

If you are getting ready to have a baby, a pilates pregnancy class may be the perfect solution for you.

Since it is often advised that you discontinue with your usual intense workouts during this time, pilates pregnancy sessions will help you to maintain your fitness level without putting you at risk.

The pregnancy exercises you will do will be very beneficial as they will really help to strengthen the muscles you will use during childbirth, those being your abdominal, back and pelvic muscles. This will make labour much easier as well as getting your old body back.

Another great thing about this type of workout is that it will challenge your muscular endurance since you need to hold the positions you take for an extended period of time. This is a great way to strengthen the muscles without having to apply the overloading stimulus of very heavy weights.

Since pilates is a slower moving activity you will not have as much trouble keeping up as you would with say a step class. When you put on your extra weight during this time, which is normal for almost every woman, it can throw you off slightly in terms of your usual balance and agility.

Having plenty of time to adjust the body through movements will make this transition that much easier.

Finally, this type of exercise does focus on your breathing and concentration more than other traditional forms of exercise and will then help to relieve stress - and if you've already experience childbirth once before you know it can be a very stressful time!

So if you are looking for an excellent way to stay in shape during the next 5-6 months before you give birth, give this type of workout class a try!
