Carpal Tunnel

Pain, weakness and numbness of the wrist can be relieved by doing carpal tunnel exercises.

It occurs when the meridian nerve is pinched or squeezed at the wrist. Carpal tunnel exercises are easy to do and can be done anywhere.

Once your symptoms have lessened, carpel tunnel exercises can be performed slowly and in a controlled manner. Stretching and strengthening the wrist area has been shown effective in aiding with the healing process.

Carpal tunnel exercises should be done under the supervision of a physiotherapist. Please consult with you doctor before you begin any activities.

You can start your fitness program with a warm up that helps you improve your range of motion (such as dancing making sure that you try and rotate the affected wrist). Then, you can lift light weights for up to 15 repetitions (depending on your fitness level and the severity of your injury). Stretching the area is also very important to aid with recovery. Follow your session with gently stretches of the wrist and hold for 30 to 60 seconds.

Yoga has also been found very effective in treating this condition. Yoga programs can be very gentle and take you though a wide variety of movements that can really help your condition. Find a program that you like and try to do it 2-3 times a week. Remember to work at your own pace. If you feel any discomfort, pain or inflammation of the area, stop exercising immediately and apply ice to the area.
