Pilates Mat

One important thing you want to buy before beginning your workout is a Pilates mat. You will want to look for a Pilates mat that is cushioned so that your joints will not hurt during any of the movements you make during your session.

Sometimes you can find Pilates mats that fold into sections which makes transporting them much easier if you are bringing your own to your fitness class. Some of the higher end ones are also made out of material that helps to wick away sweat thus making your workout more enjoyable.

Since you will likely perform spine rolling exercises cushioning is going to be highly important. Look for one that is specifically designed to cater to this type of movement as you do not want to sacrifice on this. Extra thick ones will be preferable however you do need to make sure they are still somewhat firm otherwise the padding will be too great and you will have balance issues.

A final thing to consider is the size you will be looking for. If you are a taller individual you will want to find the biggest one available so you aren't feeling cramped during your workout. Since this type of exercise does focus a lot on extending the muscles and limbs, being able to use a full range of motion is critical.

Finally, some come with a carrying harness with shoulders straps that you wrap around a rolled up mat to really make it easy for you to bring to the gym. These do not cost a lot of additional money to buy and are definitely something to look into if you are not performing your workouts at home.

Don't underestimate how much proper equipment can impact your workout. If you are not comfortable performing the exercise you are likely not going to do it on a regular basis and this is a poor excuse for not working out. Do the smart thing and invest in what you need.
