Hypothyroid

Want to learn more about Hypothyroid condition? Symptoms that may indicate that you're suffering from hypothyroid condition include fatigue, hair loss and unexplained weight gain.

If any of these sound familiar, you might want to go to your GP and have a blood sample taken to test for hypothyroid condition. Hypothyroid condition is what happens when your body stops being capable of producing enough of the specific hormone that regulates your body's metabolism. As a result, your metabolism slows right down. But what causes hypothyroid condition? And is it life threatening?

The good news is, this condition isn't life-threatening. If left untreated however, it can result in disagreeable conditions like depression or goiters. The condition generally comes about for one of two reasons. The first is that your body has what's called autoimmune thyroiditis. This means that your own immune system mistakenly attacks the gland responsible for making the metabolism hormone.

As a result, it becomes swollen and inflamed, and eventually the gland stops production of the hormone completely. The second probable cause is that part of the gland has already been removed through surgery. If this has happened, you will naturally be aware of it, and will probably have been informed that the gland's ability to produce the hormone has been reduced.

Unfortunately this illness isn't curable, but through a combination of medical treatment, and appropriate dietary choices, you can work to regulate your metabolism. A trip to your doctor can determine what level of medication you need to restore the biological balance, and get your body back to nearly normal. Your doctor will also help you to learn which foods will help reduce your symptoms and give you a new lease on life.
