Reductil is an oral treatment for obesity. As a central chemical stimulant, this drug is related to amphetamine and methamphetamine. It acts as a neurotransmitter reuptake inhibitor meaning that it suppresses the appetite and general feelings of hunger by altering the presence of serotonin and dopamine, norepinephrine in the brain. This drug is often taken once daily in 10mg doses, but is occasionally increased to 15mg after a period of a few weeks.

This drug, like most other dietary medications must be taken with caution. While this drug has been approved by the Food and Drug Association in 1997, it is not recommended for use by individuals suffering from anorexia, bulimia, depression, hypersensitivity, pulmonary hypertension, hyperthyroidism, glaucoma, prostate enlargement, phaeochromocytoma, urinary retention, or those with a history of stroke, alcohol or drug abuse, or those pregnant or under the age of 18 years old.

In addition, believed side effects include dry mouth, nausea, gastrointestinal complications including constipation and cramps, insomnia, headache, dizziness, muscle ache, and oddly enough, in some cases, increased appetite. Some more severe health impacts include increased blood pressure, paresthesias, cardiac arrhythmias and irregular mood swings. It has also been suggested that if you experience seizures, unusual bleeding or bruising, difficulties urinating, jaundice, melena, fever, chest pain, hematemesis, dyspnea, hemiplegia, edema or altered vision you must seek medical attention immediately.
