Pregnancy Workout

 

Exercising while expecting is good for you! A pregnancy workout is important to the health of the mother and the unborn baby.

Whether you're are an avid exerciser or just starting out, a pregnancy workout is fun and easy to do.

A pregnancy workout has many great benefits. These include:

  • Fewer pregnancy complaints (Backache, constipation, etc.)
  • Less likely to gain excess weight in pregnancy
  • Decreased risk for gestational diabetes
  • Easier labor
  • Faster recovery from birth
  • Your baby will tend to be leaner and calmer

Try and make exercise part of your everyday life. Aim to get 30 minutes of activity everyday. For a pregnancy workout, you can break this up into 10 minutes bouts. You will instantly start to feel healthier.

If you are an avid exerciser, you can continue with your regular program and make modification as your move along through your trimesters. If you were previously sedentary, you may want to stick with gentle activities such as swimming walking or yoga.

You want try and exercise 2-4 times a week incorporating cardiovascular and muscular training with stretching and flexibility exercises. Try and keep your weights light to avoid putting pressure on your joints. The most important thing is to listen to your body. If something feels wrong or painful - just stop. You also want to keep up a stretching program to keep you flexible and make for a faster recovery after birth. Even if you are new to exercise, you will greatly benefit from staying active while you are expecting.
